Toronto Private Aviation Overview

Canada’s financial capital —
two airports with opposite strengths.

Toronto is Canada’s largest city and its undisputed financial, commercial, and cultural centre — home to the Toronto Stock Exchange, the headquarters of Canada’s five major banks, the country’s most active real estate market, and a rapidly expanding technology sector. For private jet clients, Toronto is served by two airports with fundamentally different operational profiles that suit different types of trips.

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ / CYYZ) is Canada’s busiest airport — handling all intercontinental private jet arrivals and any aircraft requiring Pearson’s long runways and full-service FBO infrastructure. Multiple FBO operators — Signature Aviation and Skyservice among them — provide dedicated private terminals with CBSA customs and immigration processing. Pearson sits approximately 27 kilometres from downtown Toronto, a 30–45 minute road transfer in normal traffic.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ / CYTZ), located on the Toronto Island in Lake Ontario directly adjacent to the downtown core, offers a dramatically different experience — a short pedestrian tunnel or ferry ride from the mainland delivers passengers within 15 minutes of the Financial District and King West. YTZ is restricted to turboprops and light jets by its runway length (1,216 m) and location, but for clients arriving on appropriate aircraft from within North America, it is one of the most convenient urban airport arrivals in the world.

Most trans-Pacific and intercontinental bookings use Pearson. Most same-day business trips from New York, Montreal, or Boston where downtown proximity is the priority use Billy Bishop. We select the correct airport for every booking based on your aircraft, origin, and ground destination.

Why Toronto

Canada’s financial and cultural capital —
why private aviation demand is consistent.

01
Bay Street financial corridor
Toronto’s Bay Street is Canada’s Wall Street — headquarters of the five major Canadian banks (RBC, TD, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC), the Toronto Stock Exchange, and the country’s largest law firms and accounting practices. Financial sector private jet demand is consistent year-round, with peaks at quarterly earnings, M&A close windows, and AGM season in the spring.
02
Technology & real estate sectors
Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District and the broader Toronto tech ecosystem — the third largest in North America by venture investment — drives growing private jet demand from US investors, founders, and executives. The Toronto real estate market, among the most active in the world by transaction value, generates consistent high-net-worth movement between Toronto, Vancouver, and international capital sources.
03
Billy Bishop — the urban arrival advantage
No major Canadian city offers the urban airport proximity that YTZ provides. The 15-minute door-to-Financial District transfer on a Phenom or King Air is a genuine productivity advantage for executives making day trips from New York, Boston, or Montreal. For a 9am Bay Street meeting, YTZ makes a 7am departure from Teterboro operationally practical.
04
Trans-Pacific gateway for Asian capital
Toronto has the largest Chinese and South Asian diaspora communities in Canada — and significant private jet demand flowing from Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and Mumbai connected to Toronto’s real estate investment, immigration advisory, and private banking sectors. These trans-Pacific bookings arrive at YYZ on heavy and ultra-long-range aircraft, with Seletar’s Asia-Pacific network making us particularly well-positioned for this corridor.
05
TIFF & cultural calendar
The Toronto International Film Festival — one of the world’s top three film festivals — runs the first two weeks of September and generates significant entertainment industry private jet demand from Los Angeles, New York, London, and across Europe. Alongside TIFF, the Toronto Raptors NBA playoffs and Maple Leafs playoff runs generate concentrated leisure demand spikes that affect both YYZ and YTZ availability.
06
Eastern Canada hub position
Toronto is the natural hub for Eastern Canadian multi-city programmes — connecting easily to Montreal (YUL, 1hr), Ottawa (YOW, 50min), Quebec City (YQB, 1.5hr), and Halifax (YHZ, 2hr). It also serves as the Canadian entry point for trans-Atlantic arrivals positioning onward to multiple Canadian cities, and as a stopover hub between Asia and New York on cross-continental Pacific sectors.
FBO & Ground Handling

What we manage at Toronto
on every arrival and departure.

Airport selection — YYZ or YTZ — is the first decision in every Toronto booking and is made based on your aircraft type, origin, and ground destination in Toronto. For all international arrivals and any aircraft larger than a light jet, Pearson is the only option. For North American business sectors on turboprops and light jets where downtown proximity is the priority, Billy Bishop is the decisive choice.

Canadian CBSA advance passenger information is submitted on your behalf as standard. Canadian eTA documentation is confirmed for all visa-exempt international passengers — most nationalities receive it electronically with no delay, but we verify each passenger nationality before departure to prevent any arrival-day complications. US citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement but still require a valid passport for entry.

Airport selection — YYZ or YTZ
Determined based on aircraft type, origin routing, and ground destination. Communicated clearly in the quote with the rationale. Intercontinental arrivals and midsize+ jets always go to YYZ. Day-trip business sectors on light jets and turboprops often go to YTZ for the proximity advantage.
FBO selection at YYZ
Three FBO operators at Pearson — Signature Aviation, Skyservice, and Innotech Aviation. We select based on aircraft type, handling preference, and terminal position. All three provide CBSA on-site customs and immigration. Slot coordination with Toronto ATC filed as standard on every booking.
Canadian CBSA customs & immigration
Canada Border Services Agency processing at the private terminal at both YYZ and YTZ. Advance passenger manifests submitted on your behalf. eTA confirmed for all visa-exempt international passengers — we brief on documentation requirements for every nationality in the passenger manifest before departure.
YTZ operations — curfew & aircraft limits
Billy Bishop’s runway constraints (1,216 m) restrict operations to turboprops and light jets. Night curfew limits scheduled movements 0000–0600 — confirm departure availability for early-morning YTZ slots. YTZ is ideal for 0700–2100 operations on Phenom 100/300, King Air, Pilatus PC-12, and CJ-series jets.
Catering — Toronto standard
In-flight catering through Toronto-based providers at both YYZ and YTZ — Canadian produce, fresh Great Lakes fish, and international menus available. Orders placed against confirmed departure time, minimum 4 hours for standard orders, 6+ hours for full meal service at YYZ.
Ground transport — downtown & beyond
From YYZ: chauffeur transfers to downtown (30–45 min), Yorkville, North York, and the 905 belt. UP Express to Union Station (25 min) for clients preferring rail. From YTZ: taxis and rideshare from the pedestrian tunnel exit reach the Financial District in 10 minutes. We coordinate all transfers timed to block time.

Toronto FBO Infrastructure

Handling facilities at Pearson
and Billy Bishop.

Both YYZ and YTZ operate dedicated private aviation facilities with on-site CBSA customs and immigration. We maintain active handling relationships at all three YYZ FBOs and at the YTZ private terminal, selecting the appropriate facility for every booking.

YYZ — FBO Option A
Signature Aviation YYZ
Signature Aviation’s Pearson facility provides a full private terminal with CBSA processing, passenger lounge, conference facilities, fuel, and aircraft handling. Part of the global Signature network — familiar to international operators and preferred for trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific arrivals where a consistent global service standard is expected.
YYZ — FBO Option B
Skyservice FBO
Skyservice is a Canadian-origin FBO with deep Pearson roots and strong local customs and handling relationships. Full private terminal, CBSA, executive lounge, and refuelling. Preferred for domestic Canadian sectors and transborder US operations given its local operational depth and established relationship with Canadian operators.
YYZ — FBO Option C
Innotech Aviation
Innotech Aviation provides a full FBO service at Pearson with particular strength in aircraft maintenance and charter management operations. A preferred choice for client operators who maintain aircraft on the East Coast and for bookings where aircraft technical support requirements are part of the coordination.
YTZ Terminal
Billy Bishop Private FBO
The dedicated private terminal at Billy Bishop handles all private aviation operations — CBSA customs and immigration on-site, baggage direct to vehicles, and the shortest city connection of any major Canadian airport. The pedestrian tunnel from the terminal exits at Bathurst Street just west of Rees Wharf — taxis and rideshare are immediately available at tunnel exit.
CBSA & eTA
Canadian Border Services
CBSA processes all private aviation arrivals at both airports — fully separate from commercial terminal processing. Advance passenger manifests (PAXLST/APIS) submitted by our team. eTA electronic travel authorisation confirmed for all visa-exempt nationalities. US citizens are passport-only; no eTA required. We manage the documentation pre-check for every passenger on every booking.
Catering
Toronto In-Flight Catering
In-flight catering through approved Toronto providers at both airports — Ontario produce, Great Lakes freshwater fish, Canadian beef, and international cuisine options. Full dietary and allergen accommodation. Advance orders placed against confirmed departure time — 4 hours minimum standard, 6+ hours for full service meal. YTZ orders require earlier lead given terminal size.

FAQ

Questions about
Toronto private aviation.

Two airports, one city — our team navigates every detail. Ask us anything.

Ask a question
Pearson is Toronto’s full-capability airport — handling all aircraft categories, all international arrivals, and 24-hour operations. It is 27 kilometres from downtown, approximately 30–45 minutes by road. Billy Bishop is a downtown island airport with a 1,216 m runway that limits it to turboprops and light jets. Its fundamental advantage is proximity — the pedestrian tunnel from the terminal puts you within 15 minutes of the Financial District, Bay Street, and King West. For same-day business trips from New York, Boston, Montreal, or Ottawa on a Phenom or King Air, YTZ is unmatched. For everything else, YYZ is the correct airport.
Billy Bishop accepts turboprops and light jets with MTOW (maximum takeoff weight) below approximately 30,000 lb. The most common types at YTZ are the Embraer Phenom 100 and 300, Cessna Citation CJ series (CJ2+, CJ3+, CJ4), Pilatus PC-12, King Air 200/350, and similar light category aircraft. Midsize jets — the Citation XLS+, Hawker 800/900, Learjet 60, and above — do not operate at YTZ due to runway length. We confirm aircraft suitability for YTZ on every booking where the island airport is under consideration.
Citizens of most visa-exempt countries — including Singapore, the UK, all EU nations, Australia, Japan, and South Korea — require a Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for air arrivals. The eTA is applied for online, costs CAD 7, and is typically approved within minutes. US citizens are exempt. We confirm eTA requirements for every passenger nationality in the manifest before departure and will advise if any passenger requires advance processing. Not having a valid eTA can result in boarding denial, so we treat this as a hard documentation check on every international arrival.
Billy Bishop is located on the Toronto Island, connected to the mainland via a 120-metre pedestrian tunnel under the Western Channel of the harbour. The tunnel exit is at Bathurst Street and Queens Quay, approximately a 10-minute walk from Union Station and 15 minutes from the centre of the Financial District. Taxis and rideshare are available directly at the tunnel exit. This makes YTZ the fastest airport-to-downtown connection in Canada — and one of the best in North America for business aviation.
YTZ has a night curfew that restricts scheduled airline operations between midnight and 6am local time. Private jet operations during curfew hours are handled case-by-case and may be restricted depending on the type of operation and noise category of the aircraft. For private jet bookings, we confirm YTZ availability for your specific departure or arrival time before confirming the airport choice. Early morning departures before 7am are generally best routed through YYZ to avoid any curfew ambiguity.
Yes — and it is one of the most practical same-day business itineraries in North American private aviation. A Phenom 300 or Citation CJ3+ departing YTZ at 7am lands at Teterboro by 8:10am Eastern. A return departure from Teterboro at 6pm lands back at YTZ by 7:10pm. Total ground time in New York: approximately 10 hours — a full business day. The YTZ to Financial District transfer at each end adds only 30 minutes to the total journey time.
Singapore to Toronto (YYZ) is approximately 9,000 nautical miles — requiring a fuel stop unless on a Bombardier Global 7500 at reduced payload. With a fuel stop in Tokyo, Anchorage, or Vancouver, a Gulfstream G650 or G700 handles the full trans-Pacific sector. Hong Kong to Toronto is approximately 7,300 nautical miles — achievable non-stop on a Global 7500 or G700 at standard loads. We assess range and routing on every trans-Pacific Toronto booking and recommend the most efficient aircraft and fuel stop strategy.
